Ailantus glandulosa, the Tree of Heaven

The Ailantus glandulosa came from China in 1751, and makes a very ornamental tree 50 to 60 feet high with a well furnished head. It is very fast growing, and is not fastidious as to soil.

The leaves are large and pinnate, and on young, vigorous plants growing in rich soil they are often from 4 to 5 feet long.

The flowers are inconspicuous, but they are succeeded by large clusters of Ash-like fruits which are orange scarlet when ripe. It is readily increased by means of root cuttings.
