Amelanchier


This is of the order Rosaceae, and comprises trees and small shrubs of very ornamental character suitable for small gardens. They are increased by means of seeds, and grow in ordinary garden soil.

Amelanchier alnifolia is an upright growing bush 10 to 15 feet high, with Alder-like leaves and white flowers. It is a native of western North America.

Amelanchier Asiatica is a rare species from Japan. It is of dwarf habit.

Amelanchier oligocarpa and Amelanchier Utahensis are North American species rarely met with in cultivation.

Amelanchier vulgaris is a European species 15 feet or so high, with creamy white flowers which are produced later than those of other species.
