Andromeda polifolia


A pretty, dwarf evergreen shrub, widely distributed through the northern and arctic regions, belonging to Ericaceae. It requires a peaty soil and is increased by seeds and division.

The flowers are pink, and borne during April and May. It can be naturalised in woods.

The varieties angustifolia and major have respectively narrower and wider leaves than the type.
