Caesalpinia Japonica

A native of Japan, which has been in cultivation about twenty years. It belongs to the Leguminous family, and forms a large bush, with straggling spiny branches. The deciduous leaves are bipinnate, light, and graceful.

The golden flowers have reddish anthers and are in large, terminal racemes. It is a rather tender shrub and should not be planted in cold districts; it thrives best on a wall, and prefers loamy soil. It is increased by root cuttings.
