A genus of North American trees, belonging to the Juglandaceae, of ornamental character, and closely related to the Walnuts.

The various species are popularly called Hickories, and are renowned for their springy and supple wood, and for their large, handsome, pinnate leaves, which turn to a brilliant golden colour in autumn. They thrive in sandy soil or fairly heavy loam, and all make timber trees.

The principal species are alba, the Shell Bark Hickory; amara, the Bitter Nut; aquatica, the Water Hickory; olivae formis, the Pecan; porcina, the Pignut; sulcata, the Big Shell Bark Hickory; and tomentosa.
