The Leather Leaf belongs to the Ericaceae, and is distributed over the northern hemisphere. It was introduced in 1748. It forms a bush 2 feet high, and bears numerous small white blossoms in March and April.

C. c. nana is a similar shrub, growing 1 foot high and of dense habit.
