Catalpa bignonioides

Catalpa bignonioides, the Indian bean, from the southern United States, grows 20 or 30 feet high, sometimes more. It is the commonest species and the most ornamental in cultivation.

The leaves are large, the flowers white, marked with purple and yellow, and borne very freely. It is an exceptionally good town tree. The variety aurea has rich, golden leaves, and is worth a place in the garden. Also take a look at Catalpa.
