Corylus avellana

This genus of Cupuliferae is well known by the common Hazel, Corylus Avellana. For decorative work it is not of much value, though Corylus Colurna, the Constantinople Hazel from south-eastern Europe and the Himalayas, makes a fine tree.

The chief interest in the genus for shrubbery work lies in C. A, aurea and Corylus maxima atropurpurea, the former with golden and the latter with purple leaves; both are useful shrubs for colour beds.
