Crataegus oxyacantha

Crataegus Oxyacantha, the Hawthorn, Whitethorn, or Quick, is divided into two sub-species, monogyna and oxyacanthoides. Both contain a number of single and double flowered white and red varieties which are very useful for large and small gardens.

Some of the best of these are C. m. aurea, Gumperi versicolor, pendula, praecox, ramulis aureis, and Sesteriana. C. m. praecox is the Glastonbury Thorn, famous on account of its blossoms appearing at midwinter Of Crataegus oxyacanthoides good varieties are flore pleno alba, f. p. coccinea, f. p. punicea, f. p. rosea, f. p. rubra, and fructu-luteo.
