Hibiscus Syriacus


A useful autumn flowering deciduous shrub belonging to Malvaceae. It is a native of the Orient, grows to a height of 6 or 8 feet, and is very variable in character, many different varieties being grown. Some of these varieties have variegated leaves, others white, pink, purp le, blue, or rose or red and white flowers, some being single, others double. Ordinary garden soil is suitable for its culture. A sunny position is necessary. Good varieties are Bleu Celeste, Boule de Feu, flore pleno, Hamabo, Leopoldii flore pleno, paeoniflora, purvpurea, ranunculaeflorus, rubro pleno, and violacea.
