Hydrangea paniculata

Hydrangea paniculata, from Japan, is the most useful Hydrangea. It bears large, upright corymbs of flowers in August and September. The variety grandiflora has larger inflorescences, with all the flowers sterile. The latter should be cut hard back every spring.

All Hydrangeas like a rich, loamy soil, and all can be increased by means of cuttings.
