Juglans

This is a family of handsome foliaged trees belonging to Juglandaceae, of which the Common Walnut, Juglans regia, is a well known example. They like rich, loamy soil, but are only suitable for gardens of large dimensions or parks. All make large trees, and all have pinnate leaves. A few good ones are Juglans cinerea, the Butternut, North America; Juglans nigra, the Black Walnut, North America; Juglans regia, Caucasus to the Himalayas; and Juglans Sieboldiana, Japan.
