Liriodendron tulipifera


This is the Tulip Tree of the United States, and belongs to Magnoliaceae; it has been grown since 1688. It forms a very large tree of handsome appearance. The flowers are borne in July, and are Tulip-like in shape, green in colour, shaded with yellow and orange.

It will grow in loamy soil, but likes some peat. One of its several varieties has golden variegated leaves.
