Lonicera (Honeysuckle)

A genus of Caprifoliaceae, of which the Common Honeysuckle is a well known example. A large number of species are in cultivation from many parts of Asia, Europe, and America, but a few only are necessary for or ordinary gardens. The climbing species are more popular than the bushy ones, and these may be grown on walls, pergolas, or stakes.

Good climbing or Trailing Lonicera Species - Lonicera Caprifolium, Europe and west Asia; Lonicera Etrusca, south Europe, requires a south wall; Lonicera Japonica and varieties aureo-reticulata, Chinensis, and Halliana; Lonicera Periclymenum, Woodbine or Common Honeysuckle, Europe, etc.

Good Shrubby Lonicera Species - Lonicera fragrantissima, China; Lonicera nigra, European Alps; Lonicera syringantha, China; Lonicera Tatarica, Siberia; Lonicera Thibetica, Thibet.
