Paulownia imperialis

A handsome tree from Japan, belonging to Scrophulariaceae, introduced in 1840. When mature it forms a round headed tree 30 to 40 feet high, with large, more or less ovate or cordate leaves. The flowers, which are only borne in the warmer counties, are in large terminal panicles, and aro purplish in colour. If kept to one stem and cut down to the ground annually very large leaves are formed. For this work very rich soil must te given.
