Prunus Laurocerasus

Prunus laurocerasus, the Common Laurel or Cherry Laurel, is a native of east Europe and the Orient. It is a very well known shrub, and when allowed freedom grows to a great size. There are many varieties, which differ chiefly in size and colour of leaf. A selection is angustifolia, Caucasica, Colchica, latifolia, camelliaefolia, Otinii, and rotundifolia.

Prunus Lusitanica, of Spain and Portugal, is the Portugal Laurel, and, like the former, is a very well known evergreen. Of several varieties, myrtifolia, with small, narrow leaves, is the most distinct. This species is a difficult one to transplant, and the work should be done in early autumn or late spring.
