This group is characterised by having Pear shaped fruits, the Common Pear being a good example. The flowers are white and showy, and borne in April or May.
Pyrus communis, the Common Pear, is a native of Europe and Asia.
Pyrus elaeegrifolia is a native of the Caucasus and Asia Minor.
Pyrus salicifolia, the Willow-leaved Pear, is a small tree from the Levant, with narrow leaves covered with silky, silvery hairs. The variety pendula has a distinct, pendulous habit.
Pyrus Tschonoskii is a strong growing Japanese tree of recent introduction.
