Romneya Coulteri

A beautiful flowering shrub, or subshrub, belonging to Papaveraceae. It is a native of California, and in place's visited by severe frost it should have protection in winter. As a rule, the growths are killed to the ground line in winter, strong shoots appearing from the rootstock in spring.

Sometimes, however, the branches live through several winters, and the plant then attains a height of 12 feet or more. The leaves are glaucaus and prettily lobed, the blossoms 6 inches or more across, with large, white petals and a central disc of golden stamens.

A warm, sunny position, in rich, well-drained, loamy soil, is most suitable. Propagation can be effected by means of seeds or root cuttings.
